Some car models cost much more at the dealership than the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).
According to a recent iSeeCars study, the average new car will cost as much as 7.2 percent above the manufacturer’s recommended price. Generally, consumers want to stay close to the MSRP when purchasing a new vehicle — exceeding the MSRP means you’re paying unnecessary markup at the dealer!
Here’s a selection of 15 extremely overpriced cars.
1. Porsche Taycan (sedan)
The Porsche Taycan sedan, priced around $137,729, is priced a whopping 23.1% above MSRP on average, making it the second most overpriced new vehicle after the MINI Cooper Hardtop’s 25.5%.
As Porsche’s electric sedan, the Taycan commands premium pricing despite improved EV supply. Why?
Taycan combines the reflexes and acceleration of a sports car and packs up to 1019 horsepower. The 2025 model has a driving range of up to 340 miles. It has a premium price for top specs.
2. Chevrolet Camaro
While not a luxury vehicle, the Chevrolet Camaro sports car surprisingly ranks among the most overpriced models at $36,900, about 22.3% above MSRP in markets like Norfolk, VA. Its muscle car appeal allows dealers to mark it up significantly.
The Camaro is available as a coupe or soft-top convertible with a 335-hp V6 or a 455-hp V8 engine. There’s also a more powerful ZL1 with a 650-horsepower engine. The fact that the Challenger and Mustang are taking different paths could also explain why they command such a premium.
3. Porsche Cayenne
The popular Porsche Cayenne SUV ranks 3rd most overpriced at $105,500, typically 21.9% above sticker price on average. In markets like Los Angeles, the midsize two-row SUV is marked up over 31% thanks to high demand for the luxury SUV.

9. Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid
An unexpected entry, the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid small crossover is marked up 19.4% over sticker despite being a mainstream, non-luxury vehicle. Many people may question the combination of a Toyota and the $33,719 premium.
But the Corolla is synonymous with efficiency, practicality, and value. The model also offers a standard all-wheel drive, increased cargo room, and a better ride height than its sedan sibling.
10. Mercedes-Benz GLE
The midsize GLE SUV represents Mercedes’ premium pricing power, going for around $82,300, which represents 18.6% above its MSRP on average. But unlike Toyota, this isn’t unexpected. 14. Mitsubishi Mirage G4

The manufacturer boasts of its class-leading fuel economy of a combined 37 MPG, which makes it a good package when combined with good performance. The Mirage G4 seats five adults and is one of the most affordable sedans on the market.
15. Genesis GV80
The Genesis GV80 midsize luxury SUV represents the pricing power of the Genesis brand at $70,000, which is 17.4% over MSRP. It oozes sophistication with a refined exterior, including a G-matrix crest grill and two-line LED lamps.
The GV80 boasts innovative technology that extends to the passengers. Hidden beneath the sleek skin is either a standard turbo four-cylinder with a good punch or the optional twin-turbo V-6 for more performance. The GV80 is the stuff of class, attracting a crowd that won’t mind the premium pricing.
